If you are looking forward to an Australian residency plan, there are some big updates you should be aware of!
On 22 June 2021, 22 occupations have been added to the PMSOL (Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List) in an attempt to strike the right balance for Australia’s economic recovery while we are still going through pandemic time.
A day after this announcement, Migration SA has informed that state nomination applications/EOIs for the 2020/21 program year will close at midnight on Monday 28 June 2021.
How does this news affect you?
Firstly, let’s have a look at the PMSOL.
This list has been released back in 2020 in response to the negative effects of the pandemic and as a way to fill urgent skills needs in critical sectors, helping to create Australian jobs and rebuild Australia’s economy. Back in 2020 there were only 17 occupations in the PMSOL, but as the economic situation in Australia still needs support from skilled workers, 22 occupations have been recently added to the PMSOL.
Which occupations have been added?
- Accountant (General) (221111)
- Accountant (Taxation) (221113)
- Accountant (Management) (221112)
- External Auditor (221213)
- Internal Auditor (221214)
- Electrical Engineer (233311)
- Civil Engineer (233211)

- Orthotist / Prosthetist (251912)

- Analyst Programmer (261311)
- Software and Applications Programmers (261399)
- ICT Security Specialist (262112)
- Chef (351311)
What are the benefits of nominating an occupation that is in PMSOL?
First of all, your nomination and visa applications will be prioritized. To visualize it, our Migration Team at Expert Education and Visa Services Adelaide has received several grants during this year where the nominated occupation was on PMSOL and the grant date was only 2 months apart from lodgement date, if not less.
Secondly, new occupations in high demand had been included in this list. Now it is time for those Accountants that had been waiting for news to be able to celebrate! Hopefully we will see many visas being granted shortly. Chefs have been also included yesterday, so we are expecting a hyper end of the fiscal year.
Which visas can I apply if my occupation is included in PMSOL?
- Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190)
- Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491)
- Skilled independent visa (Subclass 189)
- Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (subclass 482)
- Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 494)
- Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) visa (subclass 186)
- Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) visa (subclass 187)
Does it mean that if my occupation is not in PMSOL, I will not get my Visa granted?
As advised by the Australian Department of Home Affairs, all other skilled occupation lists remain active, but the PMSOL occupations will take priority.
Since February 2021, Expert Adelaide has already been granted over 40 GSM visas and have received over 100 SA State Nominations. Many of them were for occupations not included in PMSOL at the time of grant, such as Marketing Specialists, Web Administrator, Accountants (not in PMSOL at that time) and TESOL teacher.
When should I lodge my SA Nomination?
As announced by Migration SA earlier today, state nomination applications and EOIs for the 2020/21 Program year will close at midnight on Monday 28 June 2021.
We suggest that if you comply with all visa eligibility requirements, Get in touch with us urgently so we can determine if it is possible to lodge your SA Nomination request before Monday 28th.
Will the program reopen this year?
Although The GSM & BIIP programs are scheduled to reopen in the week commencing 19 July 2021, further details on application processes and requirements for both programs will be released prior to program opening.
I have lodged my Nomination Request, but still haven´t been invited. Will I lose my application?
